In 2023, SJCCC introduced the Montessori Approach and philosophy as part of its programming in Long-Term Care.
Based on the notion, ‘the more you do for me, the more you take away from me’, the Montessori Approach is an adaptable program that meets the individual needs of each resident, based on their current level of ability.
The Approach focuses on re-discovering and supporting the person behind dementia. Activities designed to meet the current goals of an individual or of a like-minded group are implemented and designed for the individual (s) to rediscover their sense of self. These activities are meant to promote ability, autonomy, and independence.

- Fine motor skills
- 1-on-1 programs
